For the Fourth of July, I wanted to make a refreshing sweet treat for my family that was both patriotic and delicious. After scrolling through my inspiration pictures and looking for ideas, I finally decided on making a “dessert pizza” that looked like an American Flag. A fruit pizza is a sugar cookie covered with cream cheese frosting, whipped cream, and fruit. So let’s get into how I did it.

The Sugar Cookie:
- 2 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 Cup Butter
- 1 1/4 Cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
The Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 Ounces Cream Cheese
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
The Toppings:
- 1 Pound Strawberries
- 1 Pint Blueberries
- 8 Ounces Whipped Cream

The Sugar Cookie: To make the sugar cookie I started by preheating my oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, I grabbed a half sheet pan and lined it with parchment paper and cooking spray. Next, I creamed the butter and sugar in my stand mixer. Once that reached the right consistency, I added the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and mixed that until it was incorporated. Then, I added the remaining dry ingredients until a firm dough was formed. After that, I flattened the dough evenly onto the sheet pan until the entire pan was covered and I put it in the oven for about 16-20 minutes. When that came out of the oven I let it cool and then I trimmed the sides so that it was even all the way around. The cookie should have a nice crunchy exterior and a chewy interior and it should be a light golden brown color. Once you have reached this point your cookie is finished. Congratulations you’ve completed one step of this dessert; your “crust” is done!
The Cream Cheese Frosting: The frosting is the easiest thing to make in this recipe. All that you have to do is beat the cream cheese until fluffy and then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, that’s it. Just like that, you have a delicious and simple cream cheese frosting that acts as the “sauce” for your “pizza”.
The Toppings: For the toppings I chose to make an American flag using the whipped cream, strawberries, and blueberries. I put the blueberries in the top left corner in the shape of a square to represent the stars and then I made alternating rows of strawberries and whipped cream to represent the stripes. I chose to buy the premade Cool Whip tub but I wish I had chosen the aerosol container or piped it instead because it would’ve had a cleaner look. It still tasted delicious and got amazing reviews all around though. Remember, you are free to top the cookie however you want, be creative my ideas are just a suggestion! I hope you enjoyed today’s post! Tune in next week for some more culinary adventures. As always, thank you for stopping by!
Until next time,
Hailey
